Limousine Chauffeur Survives
Taxi drivers often get robbed and even killed. But a limo robbery and shooting is a sad indictment of the times. Austin Police wait for a limousine driver to wake up after undergoing surgery at the University Medical Centre at Brackenridge. Although he is in stable condition, he still hasn't been able to communicate with investigators, according to police.
Fifty-five-year-old Alfred Gordon Adams was the victim of a carjacking on Sixth Street downtown just before 3 a.m. Monday, 5 May. Shortly afterward he was shot in the 4800 block of South Interstate 35, along the "Motor Mile" just south of U.S. Highway 290. Police said the suspects left the limo in the parking lot of a doughnut shop about ten blocks away.
Detective James Mason says the chauffer, Adams, managed to called 911 at 2:48 am Monday morning after he was attacked and shot. Emergency Medical Services responders found Adams on the frontage road near the "motor mile" in the 4800 block of IH 35. His limousine was found about ten blocks away in a parking lot.
Detective Mason says investigators do believe Adam's last fare was a couple, and they believe the white female and "heavyset" black male to be the shooting and robbery suspects. According to police they robbed him, shot him once in the abdomen, dumped him from the limo and then ditched the vehicle at the ‘Krispy Kreme’ parking lot off of Stassney Lane
